Ashok Organic Industries (ASHKORG), incorporated in 1973, is engaged in the manufacture of alcohol and alcohol-based chemicals, caustic and chlorine products. It is the flagship company of the Kadakia group, which has business interests mainly in organic chemicals. Ashok Alco-chem and Maruti Salt Farms are other group companies.
The company has manufacturing capabilities in organic chemicals such as monochloro acetic acid (MCA), acetic acid, alcohol, acetaldehyde, acetic anhydride, ethyl acetate, and carboxy methyl cellulose, ethyl alcohol, chloro alkalies. Kadakia Alkalies & Chemicals, a unit of company, manufactures caustic soda lye, liquid chlorine, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen gas, sodium hypochlorite, barium sulphate, calcium hypocholoride, and aluminum chloride anhydrous. Manufacturing units are located at Nandesari, Ankleshwar, Pungum and Boridara in Gujarat.
In FY07, the industrial alcohol distillery, acetic acid plant, chlor-alkali unit, and organic chemical plants were not operational on account of non-availability of funds required for refurbishing of plants and working capital. The company is a sick company under the perusal of the Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) and is in the process of rehabilitating itself.
