RBI to issue new Rs 1,000 denomination banknotes

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will shortly issue Rs 1,000 denomination banknotes without inset letter in both numbering of Mahatma Gandhi series, 2005.

The banknotes will bear the signature of RBI governor D Subbarao.

Except for the change in the inset letter, the design of these notes will similar to old banknotes.

The banknotes issued by the RBI in the past, however, will continue to be legal tender.
