Maruti Suzuki India, India's leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, reported 0.2 per cent decrease in total sales at 151,721 units in January against 151,351 units in the year-ago month.
The company said, ''Domestic sales stood at 142,150 units, up 1.1 per cent from 140,600 units in January last year.''
The company's exports were down 11.0 per cent to 9,571 units as compared with 10,751 units in the same period last year.
The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till Jan. 31, 2019, falling 13.08% compared with the Sensex's 0.52% rise. It underperformed the market in past one quarter, declining 2.53% as against 5.27% rise in the Sensex.
Shares of the company gained Rs 243.95, or 3.68%, to trade at Rs 6,872.00. The total volume of shares traded was 48,026 at the BSE (10.34 a.m., Friday).
