Indian markets wrapped today's session on a dismal note tracking weak Asian markets. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading below 13-month low, amid continuous sell-off from foreign investors. Global markets were under pressure ahead of the crucial US jobs data.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 562.88 points or 2.18% at 25,201.90 with 28 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 165.45 points or 2.11% at 7,657.55.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Tata Power Company (5.59%), Vedanta (4.84%), G A I L (India) (4.73%), Tata Steel (4.66%), Hindalco Industries (4.34%), and Dr Reddy's Laboratories (3.74%).
Major losers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (0.73%), and Coal India (0.68%).
The Power index was at 1,729.99, down by 123.26 points or by 6.65%. The Capital Goods index was at 15,432.58, down by 860.97 points or by 5.28%. The Consumer Durables index was at 10,639.71, down by 504.69 points or by 4.53%. The Realty index was at 1,242.32, down by 41.68 points or by 3.25%.
Market breadth was negative with 546 advances against 1,983 declines.
