Indian equities settled on a dismal note on Friday led by losses in healthcare and IT stocks. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 223.94 points or 0.78% at 28,442.10 with 20 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 103.85 points or 1.19% at 8,602.85 with 39 components registering drop.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Sesa Sterlite (3.18%), Tata Steel (2.53%), Hindalco Industries (1.86%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.18%), NTPC (1.15%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.73%).
On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.80%), Tata Consultancy Services (4.22%), Axis Bank (3.23%), Bharti Airtel (2.70%), Wipro (2.46%), and G A I L (India) (1.91%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining -2.01% and -1.45% respectively.
The HC index was at 17,325.89, down by 544.68 points or by 3.05%. The TECk index was at 6,191.11, down by 127.54 points or by 2.02%. The IT index was at 11,168.78, down by 228.2 points or by 2%. On the other hand, the Metal index was at 10,128.62, up by 114.06 points or by 1.14%.
Market breadth was negative with 1,078 advances against 1,603 declines.
