Indian equities continued to trade on a flat note amid volatility on Wednesday. Healthcare and FMCG stocks traded higher while IT stocks witnessed a fall. At 11.11 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 17.96 points or 0.06% at 27,975.45 with 15 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 0.50 points or 0.01% at 8,490.50 with 24 components falling.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.91%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.82%), Bharti Airtel (1.80%), NTPC (1.46%), I T C (1.12%), and I C I C I Bank (0.94%).
On the other hand, Infosys (2.12%), G A I L (India) (2.02%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.37%), Reliance Industries (1.14%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.74%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.52%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.78% and 1.26% respectively.
The HC index was at 17,553.72, up by 268.78 points or by 1.55%. The FMCG index was at 7,837.08, up by 63.64 points or by 0.82%. On the other hand, the IT index was at 11,247.29, down by 156.83 points or by 1.38%.
