Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 40.99 or 0.12% at 34,991.91 with 16 components registering rise. while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a gain of 6.00 points or 0.06%, at 10,530.00 with19 components posting rise.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Consultancy Services (2.22%), Tata Motors (1.69%), Reliance Industries (1.37%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.14%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.08%), and Bharti Airtel (1.04%).
On the other hand, Cipla (5.68%), State Bank Of India (2.98%), Axis Bank (2.67%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.31%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.08%), and ITC (0.79%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,142 advances against 1,139 declines.
U P L topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,079.91 million. It was followed by Reliance Industries (Rs. 729.54 million), Axis Bank (Rs. 718.43 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 712.34 million).
The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 7.17 million shares. It was followed by Essar Steel (6.44 million), Reliance Communications (6.25 million) and HDFC FMP - 3360 D - March 2014 (1) - Series 30 - Regular Plan - Quarterly Dividend (5.00 million).
