Indian equities ended lower on Wednesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 127.97 or 0.51% at 25,101.73 with 21 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 40.45 or 0.52% at 7,706.55 with 40 components posting drop.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (11.98%), Tata Motors (6.47%), Tata Steel (5.60%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.78%), ICICI Bank (2.98%), and State Bank Of India (2.23%).
On the other hand, Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.86%), NTPC (1.35%), HDFC Bank (0.89%), Infosys (0.75%), GAIL (India) (0.65%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.55%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 803 advances against 1,718 declines.
Housing Development Finance Corporation topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,292.16 million. It was followed by ICICI Bank (Rs. 784.31 million), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (Rs. 624.78 million) and Spicejet (Rs. 482.00 million).
The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 6.59 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (6.44 million), ICICI Bank (3.65 million) and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (3.01 million).
