Indian markets continued to gain for the second day on Wednesday. At 9.28 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 53.74 points or 0.15% at 36,705.80 with 22 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 36.50 points or 0.33% at 11,103.95 with 35 components gaining.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (1.24%), Cipla (1.08%), Tata Steel (0.92%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.77%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.58%).
On the other hand, Wipro (2.26%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.56%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.96%), ITC (0.68%), Coal India (0.49%), and Bharti Airtel (0.29%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 817 advances against 429 declines.
Apollo Hospitals Enterprise topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,466.69 million. It was followed by Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (Rs. 222.25 million), Yes Bank (Rs. 156.34 million) and Eicher Motors (Rs. 122.35 million).
The volume chart was led by Apollo Hospitals Enterprise with trades of over 1.40 million shares. It was followed by Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (0.77 million), Yes Bank (0.71 million) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.64 million).
