Indian equities ended higher on Monday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 222.23 or 0.61% at 36,718.60 with 18 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 74.55 or 0.68% at 11,084.75 with 35 components registering rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (3.83%), ITC (3.80%), Bharti Airtel (3.49%), ICICI Bank (3.33%), Maruti Suzuki India (3.31%), and Tata Steel (2.66%).
On the other hand, Hero Motocorp (6.20%), Bajaj Auto (5.35%), Wipro (2.47%), HDFC Bank (1.48%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.86%), and Reliance Industries (0.74%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,384 advances against 981 declines.
PC Jeweller topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 883.00 million. It was followed by Bajaj Auto (Rs. 621.49 million), Bajaj Finance (Rs. 562.73 million) and G M R Infrastructure (Rs. 528.35 million).
The volume chart was led by G M R Infrastructure with trades of over 28.71 million shares. It was followed by PC Jeweller (9.41 million), South Indian Bank , The (6.28 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (3.16 million).
