Sensex ends flat with negative bias; Nifty settles at 10,410

Indian equities ended lower on Wednesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 21.04 points or 0.06% at 33,835.74, 18 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 15.95 or 0.15% at 10,410.90.

Major losers in the 30-share index were Hero Motocorp (1.78%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.53%), Tata Steel (1.25%), Tata Power Company (1.17%), Bharti Airtel (1.06%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.91%).

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (0.99%), Axis Bank (0.95%), State Bank Of India (0.82%), I C I C I Bank (0.77%), NTPC (0.35%), and H D F C Bank (0.29%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,239 advances against 1,182 declines.

Indian Oil Corporation topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,080.81 million. It was followed by Tata Steel (Rs. 514.73 million), Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 389.80 million) and Bank Of India (Rs. 384.53 million).

The volume chart was led by Southern Ispat and Energy with trades of over 55.24 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (8.61 million), Bank Of India (3.73 million) and Indian Oil Corporation (2.74 million).
