Indian markets ended lower on Monday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 73.88 or 0.21% at 35,548.26 with 20 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 17.85 or 0.17% at 10,799.85 with 37 components posting drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.97%), Bharti Airtel (1.67%), Coal India (1.59%), Axis Bank (1.33%), Tata Steel (1.28%), and Tata Power Company (1.25%).
On the other hand, ICICI Bank (3.61%), Tata Motors (1.83%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.24%), Bajaj Auto (0.62%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.46%), and NTPC (0.42%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 862 advances against 1,528 declines.
Tata Consultancy Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 954.77 million. It was followed by Strides Shasun (Rs. 518.06 million), I C I C I Bank (Rs. 370.22 million) and Spicejet (Rs. 234.40 million).
The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 11.52 million shares. It was followed by Toyam Industries (3.80 million), Spicejet (2.05 million) and Alok Industries (1.60 million).
