Indian equities ended lower on Monday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 373.94 or 1.30% at 28,294.28 with 25 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 109.25 or 1.24% at 8,722.30 with 43 components registering drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (4.03%), Tata Motors (3.23%), ICICI Bank (2.89%), NTPC (2.77%), GAIL (India) (2.50%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.46%).
On the other hand, Coal India (1.29%), Reliance Industries (0.62%), Tata Power Company (0.20%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.18%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.07%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,030 advances against 1,592 declines.
Adlabs Entertainment topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 312.90 million. It was followed by IDFC Bank (Rs. 114.98 million), S R F (Rs. 109.67 million) and Sundaram Finance (Rs. 98.69 million).
The volume chart was led by Adlabs Entertainment with trades of over 2.81 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (1.70 million), IDFC Bank (1.55 million) and BS (0.70 million).
