Indian equities ended lower on Monday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 345.56 or 0.98% at 34,812.99 with 24 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 103.00 or 0.97% at 10,482.20 with 43 components registering drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (4.84%), Hero Motocorp (3.82%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.64%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.61%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (2.09%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (2.06%).
On the other hand, Tata Steel (1.67%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.49%), Cipla (0.97%), Infosys (0.45%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.38%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.32%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 969 advances against 1,373 declines.
Tata Steel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,463.01 million. It was followed by Titan Company (Rs. 982.87 million), Yes Bank (Rs. 712.59 million) and PC Jeweller (Rs. 618.87 million).
The volume chart was led by Infibeam Avenues with trades of over 8.40 million shares. It was followed by PC Jeweller (6.84 million), Reliance Communications (6.44 million) and Yes Bank (3.20 million).
