Indian markets ended lower on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 331.50 or 0.95% at 35,144.49 with 25 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 100.30 or 0.96% at 10,582.50 with 37 components registering rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were ICICI Bank (2.44%), NTPC (2.36%), Axis Bank (2.05%), Reliance Industries (1.93%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.78%).
On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.84%), Tata Motors (3.31%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.16%), and Cipla (0.89%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,222 advances against 1,128 declines.
Yes Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 437.88 million. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 428.41 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 404.16 million) and Reliance Industries (Rs. 399.48 million).
The volume chart was led by Infibeam Avenues with trades of over 3.70 million shares. It was followed by Adani Power (3.48 million), Allahabad Bank (3.22 million) and Bank Of India (2.92 million).
