Indian equities ended lower on Friday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded below 1-month low. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 317.74 or 1.01% at 31,213.59 with 25 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 109.45 or 1.11% at 9,710.80 with 42 components posting drop.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (5.36%), Mahindra & Mahindra (3.10%), Reliance Industries (2.37%), Larsen & Toubro (2.30%), NTPC (2.20%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.14%).
On the other hand, Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (3.20%), GAIL (India) (1.54%), Wipro (0.66%), Axis Bank (0.63%), and Infosys (0.53%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 939 advances against 1,458 declines.
Cochin Shipyard topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,694.04 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,192.10 million), Reliance Capital (Rs. 579.94 million) and Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs. 510.74 million).
The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 12.38 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (10.26 million), State Bank Of India (4.25 million) and Spicejet (3.92 million).
