Sensex ends 318 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,513-level

Indian equities ended higher on Thursday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 318.20 or 0.93% at 34,663.11 with 21 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 83.50 or 0.80% at 10,513.85 with 35 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (4.11%), Infosys (3.09%), Tata Consultancy Services (3.08%), Axis Bank (2.65%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.23%), and State Bank Of India (2.01%).

On the other hand, Tata Motors (6.56%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (4.50%), Bajaj Auto (1.41%), Tata Power Company (1.10%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.07%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.40%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,167 advances against 1,209 declines.

Tata Motors topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 942.19 million. It was followed by H D F C Bank (Rs. 671.51 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 557.96 million) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (Rs. 440.90 million).

The volume chart was led by Essar Steel with trades of over 6.44 million shares. It was followed by IDBI Bank (5.07 million), ICICI Prudential Business Cycle Fund Series 1 - Regular Plan - Dividend (5.00 million) and Tata Motors (3.26 million).
