Indian equities ended higher on Thursday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 236.57 points or 0.88% to settle at 27,002.22 with 20 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 66.75 points or 0.81% to settle at 8,270.45 with 34 components posting rise.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (3.23%), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (2.19%), State Bank Of India (2.11%), HDFC Bank (1.87%), Axis Bank (1.66%), and ITC (1.47%).
On the other hand, NTPC (1.74%), Cipla (1.51%), Tata Power Company (1.15%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.82%), Asian Paints (0.41%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.34%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,087 advances against 1,442 declines.
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 469.14 million. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 254.61 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 221.64 million) and I C I C I Bank (Rs. 215.60 million).
The volume chart was led by Indian Infotech and Software with trades of over 3.33 million shares. It was followed by Visesh Infotecnics (2.56 million), Alok Industries (2.19 million) and State Bank Of India (2.16 million).
