Indian markets ended lower on Monday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 236.10 or 0.69% at 33,774.66 with 24 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 73.90 or 0.71% at 10,378.40 with 41 components posting drop.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (5.82%), Asian Paints (2.77%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.75%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.72%), Larsen & Toubro (2.35%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (2.24%).
On the other hand, Coal India (0.66%), Axis Bank (0.57%), Infosys (0.46%), Reliance Industries (0.45%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.31%), and NTPC (0.31%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 723 advances against 1,804 declines.
Vakrangee topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,334.81 million. It was followed by Punjab National Bank (Rs. 1,151.61 million), K E C International (Rs. 1,096.94 million) and Tata Steel (Rs. 840.29 million).
The volume chart was led by Punjab National Bank with trades of over 9.89 million shares. It was followed by Vakrangee (5.72 million), Fortis Healthcare (4.71 million) and G M R Infrastructure (3.63 million).
