Indian equities ended higher on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 235.98 or 0.71% at 33,342.80 with 24 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 68.85 or 0.67% at 10,283.60 with 36 components registering rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Cipla (2.64%), HDFC (2.23%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.15%), Tata Steel (2.14%), Tata Motors (1.92%) and ICICI Bank (1.86%).
On the other hand, Infosys (1.79%), TCS (1.33%), ONGC (1.03%), Wipro (0.97%) and Asian Paints (0.76%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 1,662 advances against 907 declines.
HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 7,370.22 million. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (Rs. 897.17 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 648.05 million) and Rain Industries (Rs. 598.18 million).
The volume chart was led by HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company with trades of over 21.41 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (10.06 million), Suzlon Energy (9.30 million) and RattanIndia Power (6.78 million).
