Sensex ends 216 points higher, Nifty settles at 9,966

Indian equities ended higher on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 216.98 or 0.68% at 32,245.87 with 18 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 51.15 or 0.52% at 9,966.40 with 25 components posting rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (2.20%), Wipro (1.89%), Reliance Industries (1.89%), HDFC Bank (1.83%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.68%), and ITC (1.63%).

On the other hand, Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.44%), Axis Bank (1.09%), Tata Steel (0.93%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.92%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.82%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.40%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,275 advances against 1,296 declines.

Reliance Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,281.80 million. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (Rs. 970.04 million), Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs. 515.17 million) and Sterlite Technologies (Rs. 379.44 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 34.96 million shares. It was followed by G M R Infrastructure (6.53 million), Aksh Optifibre (5.53 million) and Shree Renuka Sugars (4.60 million).
