Indian markets ended lower on Friday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 156.76 points or 0.56% to settle at 28,051.86 with 20 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 27.80 points or 0.32% to settle at 8,638.50 with 29 components registering drop.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were ICICI Bank (3.40%), Bharti Airtel (2.70%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.34%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.92%), Wipro (1.32%), and Larsen & Toubro (1.20%).
On the other hand, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.95%), Bajaj Auto (1.89%), Cipla (1.83%), Tata Power Company (1.77%), Hindustan Unilever (1.47%), and Tata Steel (1.27%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,186 advances against 1,405 declines.
Spicejet topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 989.56 million. It was followed by Reliance Infrastructure (Rs. 663.97 million), Ujjivan Financial Services (Rs. 622.06 million) and Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 464.19 million).
The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 14.55 million shares. It was followed by Birla Power Solutions (12.09 million), Unitech (6.95 million) and Reliance Communications (4.85 million).
