Indian markets ended higher on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 145.19 or 0.54% at 27,144.91 with 17 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 40.60 or 0.49% at 8,328.35 with 30 components posting rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.72%), Larsen & Toubro (2.97%), ITC (2.83%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.77%), GAIL (India) (2.61%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (2.22%).
On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (1.92%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.04%), Coal India (0.97%), Bajaj Auto (0.65%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.64%), and Maruti (0.46%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 1,533 advances against 1,105 declines.
Mahanagar Gas topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,980.64 million. It was followed by Indian Oil Corporation (Rs. 371.59 million), I T C (Rs. 321.25 million) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 312.23 million).
The volume chart was led by Unitech with trades of over 17.77 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (11.20 million), Visagar Polytex (5.27 million) and G M R Infrastructure (4.26 million).
