Sensex ends 119 points lower; Nifty settles at 8,590-level

Indian markets ended lower on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 118.82 or 0.42% at 27,976.52 with 21 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 45.00 or 0.52% at 8,590.65 with 38 components registering drop.

Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Dr Reddy's Laboratories (4.37%), ICICI Bank (2.64%), Hero Motocorp (2.12%), State Bank Of India (1.46%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.44%), and GAIL (India) (1.41%).

On the other hand, Axis Bank (2.85%), Tata Steel (1.06%), Wipro (0.77%), Infosys (0.77%), NTPC (0.54%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.38%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,017 advances against 1,615 declines.

Vakrangee topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 446.00 million. It was followed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises (Rs. 437.17 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 375.80 million) and Tata Motors (Rs. 364.04 million).

The volume chart was led by Unitech with trades of over 29.66 million shares. It was followed by Birla Power Solutions (12.09 million), Castex Technologies (8.77 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (8.14 million).
