Indian equities ended lower on Friday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 104.91 or 0.36% at 28,668.22 with 20 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 35.90 or 0.40% at 8,831.55.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (5.97%), Infosys (1.56%), ICICI Bank (1.43%), State Bank Of India (1.40%), Tata Steel (1.28%), and GAIL (India) (1.19%).
On the other hand, Reliance Industries (1.32%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.11%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.94%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.54%), Coal India (0.46%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.42%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,154 advances against 1,430 declines.
L&T Technology Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,658.65 million. It was followed by Reliance Industries (Rs. 1,278.88 million), Axis Bank (Rs. 1,203.78 million) and Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 1,058.41 million).
The volume chart was led by G T L Infrastructure with trades of over 19.63 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (7.02 million), Reliance Fixed Horizon Fund - XXVI Series 29 - Growth (5.80 million) and G M R Infrastructure (4.77 million).
