Indian equities fell further in the post noon trade on Thursday led by losses in metal and capital goods. At 2.49 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 63.73 points or 0.22% at 29,317 with 20 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 25.20 points or 0.28% at 8,897.45 with 35 components falling.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.61%), Hindustan Unilever (2.42%), Cipla (1.84%), Wipro (1.64%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.51%), and Tata Power Company (1.19%).
On the other hand, Hindalco Industries (2.55%), Coal India (2.39%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.44%), Larsen & Toubro (1.35%), Tata Steel (1.19%), and Bharti Airtel (1.15%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.56% and 0.42% respectively.
The Metal index was at 10,065.49, down by 174.4 points or by 1.7%. The Capital Goods index was at 18,235.18, down by 166.1 points or by 0.9%. The TECk index was at 6,395.49, down by 42.42 points or by 0.66%. On the other hand, the HC index was at 16,899.10, up by 329.35 points or by 1.99%.
