Indian equities extended losses at the fag end of the day amid weak global cues. Moreover, financials led the losses while FMCG and Pharma sector fared better.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 580.09 points or 1.31% at 43,599.96 with 21 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 166.55 points or 1.29% at 12,771.70 with 39 components posting drop.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Power Grid Corporation Of India (2.43%), ITC (2.06%), NTPC (1.64%), Tata Steel (1.24%) and Bajaj Finserv (0.57%).
On the other hand, State Bank of India (4.88%), Axis Bank (3.93%), ICICI Bank (3.84%), Ultra Tech Cement (3.18%), Bajaj Finance (2.61%) and HDFC Bank (2.43%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,322 advances against 1,436 declines.
