Indian markets continued to decline for the fourth day on Wednesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 392.24 points or 0.97% at 39,888.96 with 28 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 119.40 or 1.01% at 11,678.50 with 44 components posting drop.
Tata Power Company (3.87%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.60%), Tata Motors (3.57%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.73%), Larsen & Toubro (2.49%), and Hero Motocorp (1.99%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
On the other hand, major gainers in the 30-share index were Yes Bank (3.98%), State Bank Of India (0.51%), Hindustan Unilever (0.38%), H C L Technologies (0.23%), Axis Bank (0.12%), and Asian Paints (0.07%).
Market breadth was negative with 768 advances against 1,435 declines.
U P L topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 821.00 million. It was followed by India Cements (Rs. 714.59 million), Page Industries (Rs. 688.36 million) and Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 601.07 million).
The volume chart was led by Yes Bank with trades of over 8.71 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (6.92 million), India Cements (6.83 million) and Essar Steel (6.44 million).
