Indian markets ended higher on Friday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 196.37 or 0.55% at 36,063.81 with 25 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty gained by 71.00 or 0.66% at 10,863.50.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hero Motocorp (1.78%), Coal India (1.77%), Wipro (1.49%), and Maruti Suzuki India (1.48%).
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (3.43%), Asian Paints (1.20%), Bajaj Auto (1.16%), Axis Bank (0.80%), Cipla (0.58%), and Reliance Industries (0.39%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 1,698 advances against 608 declines.
S B I Life Insurance Company topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 60,230.35 million. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (Rs. 1,051.22 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 622.55 million) and Hindustan Foods (Rs. 593.96 million).
The volume chart was led by S B I Life Insurance Company with trades of over 98.38 million shares. It was followed by Essar Steel (6.44 million), Steel Authority Of India (5.12 million) and Suzlon Energy (5.06 million).
