Indian equities ended lower on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 239.67 or 0.66% at 35,973.71 with 21 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty declined by 44.80 or 0.41% at 10,835.30.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.18%), ICICI Bank (2.08%), Infosys (1.75%), State Bank Of India (1.44%), Hero Motocorp (1.15%), and Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.06%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (4.07%), Coal India (2.82%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.39%), Axis Bank (0.87%), Wipro (0.30%), and Cipla (0.24%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 844 advances against 1,399 declines.
Reliance Capital topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 334.44 million. It was followed by Essar Steel (Rs. 333.52 million), Infosys (Rs. 292.29 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 233.95 million).
The volume chart was led by Essar Steel with trades of over 6.44 million shares. It was followed by HDFC FMP - 3360 D - March 2014 (1) - Series 30 - Regular Plan - Quarterly Dividend (5.00 million), CG Power and Industrial Solutions (3.19 million) and Kotak FMP Series 127 - Regular Plan - Dividend (3.00 million).
