Sensex ends 52 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,905

Indian markets ended higher on Thursday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 52.79 or 0.15% at 36,374.08 with 11 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 14.90 or 0.14% at 10,905.20 with 20 components posting rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (1.91%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.34%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.24%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.19%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.15%), and Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.96%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (5.78%), State Bank Of India (1.78%), Hindustan Unilever (1.12%), Bharti Airtel (0.76%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.75%), and NTPC (0.65%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 943 advances against 1,324 declines.

ICICI Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,222.69 million. It was followed by Reliance Industries (Rs. 879.79 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 736.24 million) and Indiabulls Housing Finance (Rs. 323.57 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 13.38 million shares. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (3.27 million), State Bank Of India (2.48 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (1.77 million).
