Sensex ends 207 points higher; Nifty reclaims 11,400

Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 207.10 or 0.55% at 37,852.00 with 17 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 79.35 or 0.70% at 11,435.10 with 30 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (6.91%), ICICI Bank (2.17%), Axis Bank (2.15%), Reliance Industries (2.00%), and Tata Steel (1.70%).

On the other hand, Hero Motocorp (1.29%), Larsen & Toubro (1.19%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.03%), Bharti Airtel (0.66%), NTPC (0.47%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.40%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,173 advances against 1,250 declines.

Tata Steel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,193.29 million. It was followed by R*Shares Liquid BeES (Rs. 557.57 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 494.45 million) and Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 458.16 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 17.29 million shares. It was followed by Vakrangee (8.03 million), Housing Development and Infrastructure (3.14 million) and IDBI Bank (2.18 million).
