Indian equities ended higher on Friday snapping earlier losses. The broad based Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 391.00 or 1.05% at 37,556.16 with 25 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 116.10 or 1.03% at 11,360.80 with 37 components posting rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (5.17%), ICICI Bank (2.33%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (2.20%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.16%), and Coal India (1.94%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (0.84%), Hero Motocorp (0.71%), Asian Paints (0.50%), HDFC Bank (0.39%), and Wipro (0.32%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 1,618 advances against 821 declines.
Tejas Networks topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,208.51 million. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (Rs. 1,407.57 million), Axis Bank (Rs. 551.64 million) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises (Rs. 532.41 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 26.87 million shares. It was followed by Tejas Networks (8.49 million), I C I C I Bank (4.62 million) and Spicejet (2.68 million).
