Indian equities ended lower on Wednesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 63.38 or 0.18% at 34,331.68 with 17 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 22.50 or 0.21% at 10,526.20 with 35 components registering drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (2.60%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.55%), Hero Motocorp (0.97%), Coal India (0.89%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.81%), and State Bank Of India (0.79%).
On the other hand, ITC (2.82%), Wipro (2.40%), Bharti Airtel (1.29%), Tata Steel (0.95%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.81%), and Cipla (0.68%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,045 advances against 1,362 declines.
Vakrangee topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,142.71 million. It was followed by Indiabulls Ventures (Rs. 686.05 million), Idea Cellular (Rs. 531.05 million) and Yes Bank (Rs. 427.76 million).
The volume chart was led by Vakrangee with trades of over 17.05 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (9.68 million), Idea Cellular (7.41 million) and National Aluminium Company (4.54 million).
