Indian markets ended higher on Thursday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 178.47 or 0.51% at 35,260.29 with 12 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 28.45 or 0.26% at 10,817.00 with 16 components posting rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were ITC (2.61%), HDFC Bank (2.15%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.99%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.96%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.77%), and Tata Consultancy Services (1.06%).
On the other hand, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (4.32%), Tata Steel (2.89%), Tata Power Company (2.84%), Coal India (2.81%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.22%), and State Bank Of India (1.18%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 636 advances against 2,047 declines.
Housing Development Finance Corporation topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,984.09 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,162.74 million), U P L (Rs. 654.25 million) and Reliance Capital (Rs. 555.66 million).
The volume chart was led by Lanco Infratech with trades of over 14.06 million shares. It was followed by Uttam Value Steels (12.79 million), Adani Power (6.42 million) and Suzlon Energy (5.67 million).
