Sensex ends 90 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,637-mark

Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 90.40 or 0.26% at 34,443.19 with 15 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 13.40 or 0.13% at 10,637.00 with 27 components posting rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Coal India (5.63%), Yes Bank (2.31%), Wipro (2.11%),  ITC (1.94%), Reliance Industries (1.34%), and Tata Motors (0.66%).

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (1.18%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.13%), Hero Motocorp (0.91%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.86%) and NTPC (0.73%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,512 advances against 1,254 declines.

Phillips Carbon Black topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,000.79 million. It was followed by Quick Heal Technologies (Rs. 849.50 million), Rain Industries (Rs. 551.92 million) and Coal India (Rs. 491.61 million).

The volume chart was led by Unitech with trades of over 12.46 million shares. It was followed by Uttam Value Steels (9.99 million), South Indian Bank , The (8.19 million) and Reliance Communications (8.18 million).
