Sensex, Nifty end flat with negative bias; CIL, HDFC drag

Indian markets ended flat on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 21.39 points or 0.07% at 32,402.37 with 15 components posting drop. while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a decline of 5.55 points or 0.05%, at 10,147.55 with 33 components posting drop.

Major losers in the 30-share index were Coal India (2.49%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.02%), Larsen & Toubro (0.92%), State Bank Of India (0.87%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.84%), and Reliance Industries (0.64%).

On the other hand, GAIL (India) (4.87%), Tata Motors (4.58%), Tata Power Company (1.25%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.09%), Cipla (0.61%), and NTPC (0.54%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,231 advances against 1,211 declines.

Tata Motors topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 20,509.64 million. It was followed by Tata Global Beverages (Rs. 9,630.63 million), Vakrangee (Rs. 998.90 million) and Tinplate Company of India (Rs. 988.72 million).

The volume chart was led by Tata Motors with trades of over 48.38 million shares. It was followed by Tata Global Beverages (44.59 million), Jaiprakash Associates (23.45 million) and Suzlon Energy (11.57 million).
