Indian markets ended higher on Wednesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 276.16 or 0.88% at 31,568.01 with 24 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 86.95 or 0.89% at 9,852.50 with 41 components registering rise.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.79%), Bharti Airtel (2.69%), Tata Steel (2.28%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.25%), Infosys (1.98%), and GAIL (India) (1.85%).
On the other hand, Tata Power Company (1.44%), Hindustan Unilever (1.05%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.82%), ITC (0.28%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.12%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 1,505 advances against 927 declines.
Infosys topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,892.66 million. It was followed by Fortis Healthcare (Rs. 922.88 million), Bajaj Finance (Rs. 857.18 million) and Balkrishna Industries (Rs. 574.09 million).
The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 7.92 million shares. It was followed by Fortis Healthcare (6.05 million), Lycos Internet (5.58 million) and Jaypee Infratech (5.15 million).
