Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 33.00 or 0.11% at 31,291.85 with 17 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 11.20 or 0.11% at 9,765.55 with 26 components registering rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.67%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.24%), Bharti Airtel (1.43%), GAIL (India) (1.26%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.11%), and Axis Bank (0.98%).
On the other hand, NTPC (2.59%), Hero Motocorp (2.07%), Bajaj Auto (1.09%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.85%), Larsen & Toubro (0.64%), and Asian Paints (0.49%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 900 advances against 1,531 declines.
Infosys topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,725.89 million. It was followed by Fortis Healthcare (Rs. 1,516.23 million), Reliance Capital (Rs. 456.31 million) and Spicejet (Rs. 341.01 million).
The volume chart was led by Fortis Healthcare with trades of over 10.70 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (7.66 million), Suzlon Energy (5.98 million) and Future Consumer (3.66 million).
