Indian markets ended flat on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. Both Sensex and Nifty traded near life time high. At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 17.60 points or 0.05% at 32,228.27 with 17 components registering drop. While the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a decline of 1.85 points or 0.02%, at 9,964.55 with 31 components registering drop.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (1.61%), Coal India (1.07%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.81%), Cipla (0.80%), Reliance Industries (0.79%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.72%).
On the other hand, Axis Bank (1.94%), Bharti Airtel (1.76%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.50%), Tata Steel (1.03%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.68%), and Bajaj Auto (0.64%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,139 advances against 1,386 declines.
Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 521.40 million. It was followed by I T C (Rs. 487.24 million), Vedanta (Rs. 332.84 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (Rs. 325.26 million).
The volume chart was led by Unitech with trades of over 23.41 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Power Ventures (17.94 million), Jaiprakash Associates (12.09 million) and Shree Renuka Sugars (8.22 million).
