Sensex gains 54 points; Nifty trades at 9,985

Indian markets continued to rally for the third day on Tuesday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading at a new life time high. At 9.22 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 54.03 points or 0.17% at 32,299.90 with 20 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 19.50 points or 0.20% at 9,985.90 with 33 components gaining.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hero Motocorp (1.33%), Bharti Airtel (0.95%), ICICI Bank (0.63%), GAIL (India) (0.63%), Tata Steel (0.61%), and HDFC Bank (0.54%).

On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.52%), Cipla (0.49%), Wipro (0.45%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.38%), Asian Paints (0.31%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.30%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 775 advances against 369 declines.

Hero Motocorp topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,130.97 million. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (Rs. 144.79 million), United Spirits (Rs. 88.28 million) and Infibeam Incorporation (Rs. 83.17 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Power Ventures with trades of over 2.17 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (1.15 million), GVK Power & Infrastructure (0.80 million) and Idea Cellular (0.57 million).
