Sensex gains 80 points; Nifty above 9,900-level

Indian equities continued to rally for the second day on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading at a new life time high. At 9.29 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 79.69 points or 0.25% at 32,108.58 with 14 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 9.35 points or 0.09% at 9,924.60 with 27 components gaining.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Wipro (1.75%), Hero Motocorp (0.99%), State Bank Of India (0.98%), Reliance Industries (0.93%), Axis Bank (0.75%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.69%).

On the other hand, Asian Paints (0.85%), Bharti Airtel (0.68%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.59%), Tata Steel (0.55%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.46%), and Tata Power Company (0.30%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 908 advances against 493 declines.

Reliance Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 216.57 million. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (Rs. 119.35 million), Avenue Supermarts (Rs. 95.69 million) and Sterlite Technologies (Rs. 82.65 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 4.36 million shares. It was followed by GVK Power & Infrastructure (3.70 million), Jaiprakash Power Ventures (2.02 million) and Shree Renuka Sugars (1.53 million).
