Sensex gains over 100 points; HDFC, Cipla, HUL, ITC up 2%

Indian markets continued to rally for the third day on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading at a new life time high. At 1.49 p.m, the Sensex was trading up 102.24 points or 0.33% at 31,130.45 with 13 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 7.95 points or 0.08% at 9,603.05 with 24 components gaining.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.94%), Cipla (2.73%), Hindustan Unilever (2.70%), ITC (2.59%), Reliance Industries (1.53%), and Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.30%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (10.46%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (5.22%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.08%), Infosys (1.68%), ICICI Bank (1.43%), and Wipro (1.05%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 877 advances against 1,526 declines.

Housing Development Finance Corporation topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,163.91 million. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 2,069.39 million), Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services (Rs. 1,028.97 million) and Tech Mahindra (Rs. 740.10 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 15.17 million shares. It was followed by Siti Networks (10.47 million), Sintex Industries (8.64 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (5.34 million).
