Sensex flat with positive bias; Nifty trades at 9,601-mark

Indian markets continued to rally for the third day on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading at a new life time high. At 11.53 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 12.60 points or 0.04% at 31,040.81 with 13 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 6.30 points or 0.07% at 9,601.40 with 21 components gaining.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were ITC (2.40%), Hindustan Unilever (2.18%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.03%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.10%), Reliance Industries (1.04%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.94%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (11.28%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (4.76%), ICICI Bank (2.05%), Wipro (1.45%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.39%), and Infosys (1.33%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 757 advances against 1,450 declines.

Housing Development Finance Corporation topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,024.84 million. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 1,698.78 million), Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services (Rs. 972.03 million) and Tech Mahindra (Rs. 667.29 million).

The volume chart was led by Siti Networks with trades of over 10.45 million shares. It was followed by Sintex Industries (7.72 million), Reliance Communications (7.64 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (4.58 million).
