Sensex ends 122 points higher; Nifty settles at 9,144

Indian equities ended higher on Wednesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 121.91 or 0.41% at 29,531.43 with 16 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 43.00 or 0.47% at 9,143.80 with 26 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (2.07%), ICICI Bank (1.88%), Bharti Airtel (1.64%), Tata Power Company (1.30%), Coal India (1.10%), and Reliance Industries (0.99%).

On the other hand, Hero Motocorp (2.65%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.37%), NTPC (0.73%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.71%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.56%), and Tata Motors (0.51%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,148 advances against 1,564 declines.

Bharti Infratel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 70,622.87 million. It was followed by Astral Poly Technik (Rs. 8,069.80 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 5,278.98 million) and Axis Bank (Rs. 4,359.43 million).

The volume chart was led by Bharti Infratel with trades of over 210.28 million shares. It was followed by State Bank Of India (18.35 million), Astral Poly Technik (14.45 million) and Idea Cellular (12.76 million).
