Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 172.37 or 0.59% at 29,409.52 with 21 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 55.60 or 0.61% at 9,100.80 with 36 components registering rise.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (3.23%), Tata Power Company (2.76%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.97%), Asian Paints (1.64%), Tata Motors (1.40%), and ICICI Bank (1.10%).
On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.08%), ITC (0.46%), Coal India (0.41%), Reliance Industries (0.41%), Hero Motocorp (0.31%), and GAIL (India) (0.27%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,377 advances against 1,344 declines.
Deepak Fertilisers & Petrochemicals Corporation topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 6,198.57 million. It was followed by Edelweiss Financial Services (Rs. 5,753.30 million), Axis Bank (Rs. 4,509.01 million) and Indiabulls Housing Finance (Rs. 3,178.49 million).
The volume chart was led by Edelweiss Financial Services with trades of over 39.54 million shares. It was followed by Deepak Fertilisers & Petrochemicals Corporation (24.37 million), CPSE ETF (18.73 million) and Manaksia Coated Metals and Industries (13.09 million).
