According to data from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the total folio count at the end of February 2017 stood at 5.43 crore, 1.1% higher than January 2017. Out of the 6.1 lakh folios added in the month of February 2017, 4.9 lakh folios came from the Equity (including the ELSS) category. Industry's folio growth is not keeping pace with AUM growth, which suggests that there is a huge untapped market. The MF industry needs to evolve further and devise innovative means to attract more investors.
