Samvat 2071 commenced on a cheerful note with the NSE reclaiming 8,000 mark in the opening session of 'Muhurat' trading on Thursday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 63.24 points or 0.24% at 26,850.47. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 15.85 points or 0.20% at 8,011.75.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bajaj Auto (1.59%), Hindalco Industries (0.81%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.80%), Reliance Industries (0.70%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.56%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.54%).
On the other hand, Wipro (3.82%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.99%), Tata Motors (0.47%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.46%), Sesa Sterlite (0.32%), and G A I L (India) (0.29%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1% and 1.56% respectively.
The Oil & Gas index was at 10,794.67, up by 70.09 points or by 0.65%. The HC index was at 13,917.82, up by 74.99 points or by 0.54%. The Capital Goods index was at 15,134.67, up by 78.17 points or by 0.52%. The FMCG index was at 7,416.43, up by 30.97 points or by 0.42%.
Market breadth was positive with 1,961 advances against 534 declines.
