Indian equities remained lower in noon trade on Monday tracking weak global cues. At 12.28 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 90.26 points or 0.33% at 27,000.16 with 22 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 39.45 points or 0.49% at 8,082 with 39 components falling.
India VIX, a volatility index, declined on Monday. It is currently trading at 11.73, down 1.32% from 11.89. It witnessed a high of 12.44 and low of 10.31 after opening at 11.89 (at 12.59 pm).
Volatility Index is a measure of market's expectation of volatility over the near term. Volatility is often described as the ''rate and magnitude of changes in prices'' and in finance often referred to as risk.
India VIX is a volatility index based on the Nifty Index Option prices. From the best bid-ask prices of Nifty Options contracts, a volatility figure is calculated which indicates the expected market volatility over the next 30 calendar days.
