Indian equities continue to trade flat on Friday ahead of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation data which will be announced later in the day. Consumer durables and FMCG stocks witnessed a gain whereas power and capital goods stocks registered a fall.
At 1.25 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 2.52 points or 0.01% at 26,993.35. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 11.60 points or 0.14% at 8,074.10 with.
Major losers were Hindalco (2.87%), Sun Pharma (1.59%), Coal India (1.39%) and NTPC (1.32%).
Top gainers were Cipla (2.62%), Maruti Suzuki (1.55%), ITC (0.97%) and HDFC (0.88%).
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.07% and 0.51% respectively.
The Consumer Durables index was at 9,740.00, up by 106.76 points or by 1.11%. The FMCG index was at 7,484.58, up by 31.66 points or by 0.42%.
The Power index was at 2,090.44, down by 25.19 points or by 1.19%. The Capital Goods index was at 15,401.54, down by 99.38 points or by 0.64%.
